Ramesh Balakrishnan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Thrasys, Inc.

Thrays Inc. is a health information technology company based in San Francisco, California that delivers solutions for coordinated and accountable care based on its innovative SyntraNet health network.  Mr. Balakrishnan has held senior executive positions at Measurex Corporation and Asyst Technologies, where he was responsible for launching market leading products and developing business in the US, Europe and Asia.  Prior to founding Thrasys, Inc. Mr. Balakrishnan co-founded of ePropose, Inc., a pioneer in technologies for collaborative workflows.  

Mr. Balakrishnan holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University and a B.Eng. from the University of Madras.  He also holds fourteen domestic and international patents in a number of areas from real-time controls, signal processing, business applications and large scale system design.  Mr. Balakrishnan’s present focus, with Thrasys, Inc., is to introduce radically new health information technology solutions for health communities to share information, coordinate care, and manage population health.


As healthcare providers seek to redefine themselves as accountable care organizations, it will be crucial to examine the role technology will play and the significant investment needed in order to develop a HITECH infrastructure and solutions that meet demands.

Participants will explore the knowledge amongst the council to identify best practices regarding types of technology, innovation, resources, and services necessary to adapt and thrive in this new era of value-driven health care.

Mobile Devices/Consumer IT Security Issues
Clinicians are seemingly always on the move, and the need to be able to review results, enter orders, communicate with team members, use web based applications etc, has become achievable with the development of iPads and other tablet devices.

Attendees will discuss and share how their group or system addressing the security challenges arising from the increased use of these mobile devices.
